FINE PERFORMANCES AT NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
Kate Sommerfield, 16 travelled to Sydney in March to participate in the Australian Championships. The Championships are used as selection trials for the Commonwealth Games so all the big names of swimming are out in force with heats and finals televised. After swimming just outside her PB in the 50m breaststroke (33:91) Kate swam a 3 sec PB in the 200m breaststroke (2:42:80)and took another 2 sec off in the 100m breaststroke (1:13:27) finishing as 2nd Emergency for the semi-finals. In April Kate was back in Sydney for the Australian Age Championships where she competed in the 100m and 200m breaststroke events. Kate swam strongly in the 100m breaststroke heat and secured herself a place in the finals that night. After a nail biting finish she ended up in 4th place with a time of 1:12:30 breaking 2 country & 2 out of Gippsland Recrods along the way. Things didn’t go quite as well in the 200m breaststroke with Kate swimming outside her best time and finishing 14th. |
