Presidents Report

July 2009 Report

Welcome back to all swimmers, parents and coaches.
Thank you to all those people who have worked tirelessly to bring the season together organising
invoices, paperwork mailout, timetables, newsletters, coaches and meets, etc.
With most swimmers back in the water now training timetables should settle down over the next few weeks.

Welcome to new coach Ben Jostlear who will be helping us out coaching Senior Development Squad. My apologies to the swimmers and parents who have been inconvenienced with time table changes. At the current time Ben is only able to train on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights and some mornings; this
along with a continued lack of pool space has forced the late changes.

Please remember the Warragul Twilight Meet on 8/9 August, as this is a major fundraiser for the club and we will need lots of help. This meet is also the last chance to get qualifying times for Country Shortcourse so we need to ensure we have enough timekeepers and officials to make it a qualifying meet.

With times no longer allowed to be converted from shortcourse to long course for Countries and States, older swimmers will need to travel to Melbourne more to attain long course times. Please talk to your coaches/team managers re which meets to target.
Congratulations to Kate Sommerfield and Dean Bickerdike for great PB’s achieved on the weekend at State Open shortcourse.

Good luck to those swimmers who will be attending Country Shortcourse in Wangaratta in August.

Best wishes
Paul Myers

New President

Welcome to my first editorial of the WASC Newsletter. I am looking forward to the year ahead and working with you all towards the growth and development of all our swimmers as they achieve their PB’s, goals and dreams.
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the previous committee for all of their hard work over the past season and a special thank you to Mike Wardell, Dave Matchett and Andy Orlicki who have given their time, effort and support to the committee over a number of years.

The Presentation/AGM night was a wonderful success, it certainly highlighted the fantastic achievements of all of our swimmers and the dedication of our coaches throughout the 09/10 season. Thank you also to Shirlene, Kerrianne and Jen for putting together a great night which was enjoyed by all.

I look forward to working with our newly elected committee over this coming season - it is positive to see such enthusiasm from our parents wishing to participate in the club’s future.

Within my team at work, I have an ‘open door’ approach and would like to extend this to all swimming families - please feel free to contact me on mobile: 0438 800 662 or
email djames@casey.vic.gov.au

Club Aggregate Night

Aggregate nights are held every second Friday during training. This is a great opportunity for swimmers
to practice their race starts and work on their times. All times are recorded and trophies presented
for the most improved swimmers at the end of season presentation night. It is also a good opportunity for parents to learn and practice timekeeping.

The first aggregate night will be held on 14 August 2009.

Friday Night Club Meeting - 5.45pm

Every Friday night prior to swimming training a
club meeting is held and members are given the latest information on any training schedule changes, upcoming swim meets, closing dates for entry cards and club activities.

The meeting commences at 5.45pm and parents & swimmers are encouraged to attend. This meeting also provides an opportunity to ask questions, but also to meet other parents, etc.
