Recent NewsJX AwardsThe Australian Junior Excellence Program (JX)recognises, rewards and encourages junior swimmerswho, through their development of aquatic skills & fitness, achieve a high standard of swimming excellence. Under the program, swimmers aged from 9 to 13 years, who accomplish times set by Swimming Australia, qualify at Gold Star, Gold, Silver, Bronze or Green standard, depending on their best performance/s during the season. Qualifiers receive special recognition by way of a certificate of achievement and a cap or t-shirt. The 2009/10 criteria and times are available in the Warragul Swimming Club handbook and also on the Swimming Australia website. Our swimmers should be congratulated on their fine performances throughout the season. Qualifying times apply and a copy of these is available from the Swimming Victoria website and is also posted on the swimming club notice board at Warragul Indoor Pool. Times must have been swum at an approved meet since 01 January 2008 and converted times will not be accepted. All swimmers with qualifying times are encouraged to attend this meet. Please speak to your coaches for further information. ENTRIES CLOSE 08 AUGUST AND SHOULD BE GIVEN TO DAVID MATCHETT Gippsland Swimming Inc. Target SquadFive years ago Gippsland Swimming created the GSI Target Squad with the aim of supporting swimmers to achieve state or national qualifying times. The squad provides a pathway for swimmers looking to enter the Gippsland Sports Academy and provides specialized coaching sessions including underwater filming to enable technique analysis, nutritional advice and the chance to train alongside Academy swimmers.After a rigorous selection process Warragul is proud to announce that the following swimmers have been offered a place in this squad: Sean Bulmer, Matt Accardi, Hannah Matchett, Zoe Barwick, Kirstie Skinner and Hannah Accardi. Congratulations the club is very proud of your achievement. Warragul Swimmer joins Gippsland Sports AcademyKate Sommerfield, 15 who swam at the National Age Championships in Sydney earlier this year has been accepted into the Gippsland Sports Academy. Kate was a member of the 2008/09 GSI Target Squad and achieved her National time at the Gippsland Championships.The Academy is a community based organization which provides developmental opportunities for young athletes. The swimming program is support by highly accredited satellite coaches who work under the guidance of Mentor Coach Dr Ralph Richards. The program provides services to bridge the gap between club and elite levels. aims to assist athletes to develop to high levels of performance and strives to overcome disadvantages faced by regional athletes. In September Kate will travel to Runaway Bay on the Gold Coast with other Academy swimmers to participate in a 5 day intensive training program. Congratulations Kate - the Water Warriors are very proud of your achievement. CLUB PRESENTATION NIGHTA wonderful evening was enjoyed by many members of the club at the end of season presentation night in April. The prestigious Coach’s award this year was presented to Matthew Davey for his fine performances throughout the year. Andrew Orlicki & Kerrieanne Murray were both presented with Club Service Awards.
