Major Swim Meets

The swimming season commences 1 May and concludes 30 April each year.  The swimming calendar is divided into two seasons - Short Course held in a 25m pool and Long Course events are held in a 50m pool.  The short course season runs throughout winter, culminating in the Victorian Short Course Championships in early September.  The long course season commences shortly afterwards with our major events, the Victorian Championships and the Victorian Country Championships held in January.  The Victorian Age Sprint Championships are held in February.  The season finishes in April with the Australian Age Championships.

Swimmers require qualifying times for all Championship meets and compete throughout the year to achieve times at "approved meets".  Qualifying times for all long course events must be obtained in a 50m pool.  Short course conversion is no longer allowed.  A list of approved meets can be found at www.swimmingvictoria.org.au.

Target Squad

Gippsland Swimming has offered Gippsland swimmers the opportunity to participate in the GSI Target Squad program, with the aim to help swimmers achieve State or National Championships qualifying times.

Entry into this program was via application and swimmers were ranked for selection based on qualifying times.

GSI Target Squad coaches will work closely with the Gippsland Sports Academy swimming program to deliver an excellent program to complement regular club training.

Congratulations to the following swimmers who have been selected to the 2010 GSI Target Squad: Michaela Rutherford, Sarah Davine, James Murray, Tim Davine, Matthew Davey & Sean Bulmer.

Camp 21

Coaches will shortly select a small team of swimmers to participate in the 2010 Camp 21 Program.  Camp 21 is a series of swim clinics/training sessions to be held prior to some Gippsland swim meets.  Details of sessions will be provided shortly.

Swimmers selected will have shown the ability and determination to become a country qualified swimmer and must be aged between 10 and 15 years.

They must also make a commitment to attend all Camp 21 meets and endeavour to do their best as representatives of Warragul Swimming Club.

Successful swimmers will be notified of their selection
